Lil Mo discourages artists from boycotting Florida

Lil MoWhile some music lovers may have been wondering why more artists haven’t joined Stevie Wonder’s boycott of Florida, Lil Mo explained why she won’t be participating in that protest.

“Ever since the verdict, a certain artist is boycotting the state of florida. The fans don’t deserve to be deserted,” Mo wrote via Twitter on Friday.

The legendary Stevie Wonder, who played a part in the Civil Rights Movement, was the first to announce that he’d not return to perform in Florida until the Stand Your Ground laws in the state were repealed. The laws have come under a lot of scrutiny following the George Zimmerman shooting which left an unarmed Black teen dead. George was found “not guilty.”

Mo didn’t just discourage other artists from joining in the boycott, she seemingly questioned Stevie’s resolve and whether he’d change his mind if offered enough money to perform there.

“If the coin was right, would HIS staff accept or deny the gig? And if so how would he know? They could say it’s sumpter, sc or nah?” she wrote.

However, money wasn’t Mo’s only reason for discouraging artists to join the boycott. She reasoned that those who depend on singers for their livelihoods will be hurt by that decision.

“TBH some artists have staff that dedicate their LIFE to that artist so when that artists expires the TEAM outta work. Think abt it b4 u buck,” she advised.

Though she doesn’t support boycotting the state where Trayvon Martin was gunned down, Mo’ suggested an alternative.

“I’m merely stating don’t boycott. Do a benefit concert give the proceed to the family,” said Mo whose family is conducting its own personal protest this summer.

“My family normally vacations in FLORIDA july 22-aug 2,” she wrote. “BUT, As of today we have reneged and will go to Another state instead.”

Mary Mary is the only other group that has announced plans to join Stevie in boycotting so far. However, power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z showed their support of the Martin family by recently attending a rally.

Mo, whose comments were met with a lot of support, also clarified that she wasn’t attacking Stevie, who she described as “one of the greatest consistent voices in our musical community to date!!”

“Let me go on record by saying ps iLove stevie wonder,” she wrote.
