Fresh off of her wedding in France and shoot scenes for X-Men: Days of Future Past, Halle hauled herself to San Diego for the annual nerd-stravaganza. She was there to talk about her role as Storm in the upcoming X-Men movie, which will be her fourth time playing the weather witch.
“What I’ve always loved about Storm…is that she’s like the Earth Mother of the [X-Men],” “I think that’s part of my own personality that resonates and what attracted me to Storm in the beginning.”
But Storm isn’t always calm, cool, collected and peaceful. She will light a bad guy up if need be. There is one thing that Halle would like to change about Storm’s on-screen storyline, though. “Besides being a bada*s when she needs to be, she’s kind of the mom of the group,” Halle said. “What I hate about Storm is that she never gets any love.”
There’s also been some chatter about whether or not Marvel would do a movie about Nicki Fury. Samuel L. Jackson, who plays the special forces boss, didn’t confirm or deny that such a movie is on Marvel’s slate. However he did say playing Nick feels “pretty bad a*s” during a panel at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.
Nick leads his teams on a need-to-know basis and he’s not above using a little trickery or scheming to get them in line. This leads some to wonder how Nick views the people around him.
“They’re co-workers, subordinates in a sense. Instruments of justice. Tools, but people that he cares about,” Samuel explained while talking about Captain America: The Winter Soldier. “He has a different relationship that he cares about.”
That said, Samuel doens’t advise that anyone place too much trust in Nick.
“Almost everything that comes out of Nick Fury’s mouth is a lie anyway. Sometimes he has to figure out ‘am I lying to myself too?'” Samuel said before the panel ended. “He has a very good idea of what’s going on, but his paranoia keeps him from believing.”
It was also revealed during the panel that Anthony Mackie would be joining the Marvel movie universe as he takes on the role of Falcon. And Zoe Saldana got to speak out for the first time about her role as Gamora in Marvel’s upcoming film Guardians of the Galaxy.
Not unlike her work in the rebooted Star Trek franchise, Zoe will be working in space as the universe’s most deadly assassin. The role will require some serious makeup as Zoe needs to be green to play Gamora, but that’s nothing for her after Avatar. “I’ve been blue one, so I thought, ‘Why not try green?'” she joked.
Djimon Hounsou also made his debut as part of the cast. Find out who he’s playing below!
