By all accounts, Will Smith and Alfonso Ribeiro had a great working relationship while co-starring on “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” but apparently things with LL Cool J were a bit dicey.
The former child star worked with the rapper/actor on “In the House” and revealed to “Access Hollywood” that the vibe was completely different from what he was used to from his “Fresh Prince” days.
“I had a great time on the show in terms of the work I was doing. Unfortunately, the show was not a fun time for me,” he said. “LL Cool J and I have talked about it since then, but the working environment there on that show was horrible. Coming from ‘Fresh Prince’ where everybody was about the show about making the show better, our rehearsal process was all about making it great. ‘In the House’ was exactly the opposite.”
The also starred Debbie Allen, Kim Wayans and Maia Campbell, but it seems that Alfonso’s main issue was with LL who he eventually refused to do scenes with.
“It was, ‘Hey. I’m gonna collect a paycheck, but my life is about everything else,’ and LL was about his music at the time. He was not focused on working hard as an actor,” said Alfonso who eventually received an apology from the legendary rapper.
“He came to me and he said, ‘I wish I would have known then what I know now about working and about being there and being present…’ He apologized for the work environment that we had and I’m so proud of him now,” said Alfonso.
