Last week, Russell’s fans were in an uproar and scratching their heads about the 3-minute video for which he subsequently apologized.
The NAACP objected to the skit. An online petition demanding its removal collected more than 1,000 signatures and Russell reportedly extended an apology to Harriet’s descendants, as well.
According to Russell, the family members not only pardoned him for the apparent lack of judgment, they encouraged the hip-hop mogul to begin producing an actual film about the Underground Railroad conductor.
“The last few dayz I have been speaking to some of the direct descendants of Harriet Tubman,” Russell tweeted. “They have not only accepted my apology but we agree that we should begin immediately to develop the story of Harriet Tubman.”
Russell shared that he’d already been working on producing a miniseries on the life of Frederick Douglass, a former slave who escaped to become an influential abolitionist and author.
“God works in mysterious ways,” wrote Russell.
