One Texas pastor is sick and tired of seeing the women of his congregation praising the Lord beneath a hair full of weave, and he’s doing something about it.
Pastor A.J. Amir of Resurrecting Faith church has requested that the leaders of his congregation forgo the extensions and fake tresses and rejoice in the beauty God gave them.
“Our Black women are getting weaves trying to be something and someone they are not. Be real with yourself is all I’m saying,” the pastor said, according to AmericaPreachers.com.
“I don’t want my members so focused on what’s on their heads and not in their heads,” said the 39-year-old pastor who leads a flock of mostly 20-somethings.
While most are familiar with verses like 1 Peter 3:3-4, which seemingly instructs Christians to focus more on inner beauty than outward, that’s not the only reason Pastor A.J. suggests members of his church wave good-bye to weaves. It’s also a monetary issue.
“I lead a church where our members are struggling financially. I mean really struggling. Yet, a 26-year-old mother in my church has a $300 weave on her head. No. I will not be quiet about this,” he said.
