Justin Timberlake thinks the public is being a little too hard on Miley Cyrus following her controversial performance on the 2013 VMAs.
“Listen, man, you know, it’s the VMAs. What did you guys expect?” Justin told New York’s Fresh 102.7. “I like Miley. I like her a lot. I think, you know, she’s young. She’s letting everybody know that she’s growing up.”
The “Suit & Tie” crooner also noted that the VMAs is typically where artists give the more shocking stage shows. Since it’s an MTV production, Justin argues that people expect to see artists do something that they wouldn’t necessarily get away with on other awards shows. “I just think it’s the VMAs. It’s not like she did it at the Grammys,” he said. “This is not an uncommon thing. I actually thought all the bears were really cool.”
JT also hit up “Sway In The Morning,” where he continued to defend the former “Hanna Montana” star. He stated that Miley isn’t doing anything new. He acknowledged the young women have been shaking, popping and dipping it low for years.
“She’s doing what 20 year old girls do. The difference is she’s got a microphone, she’s on stage at the VMAs,” Justin said. “Take it easy on her, she’s 20 years old, she’s a young adult and she can do that.”
