While some brides would clutch their pearls and have a cringe-worthy Bridezilla moment if another woman wore white to their wedding, NeNe Leakes said she wouldn’t have had it any other way.
The “I Dream of NeNe” star’s second walk down the aisle to wed husband Gregg Leakes will be chronicled when the reality special premieres Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo. Though it was her special day, NeNe said she wanted all her bridesmaids to shine.
“I love all my bridesmaidzillas. Some of them have never been married before and some probably will never marry,” said NeNe reasoning that her wedding was possibly their one chance to walk down the aisle in a white dress. “I just wanted to make sure that they all felt like a bride as I did…I wanted these girls to look beautiful. I really wanted them to be part of my wedding.”
“Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Cynthia Bailey served as one of NeNe’s bridesmaids and though she’s married, she appreciated the opportunity to take that walk in a white gown.
“Real Housewives of Atlanta” fans likely recall that when Cynthia wed hubby Peter Thomas, she chose not to wear the traditional color.
“I got married in a silver dress,” Cynthia told Sister 2 Sister. “[NeNe] wanted her big day to be special for everyone. Everybody got to feel like a bride that day.”
NeNe didn’t designate anyone to be the maid or matron of honor, but that didn’t stop the ladies from having something to argue about.
Neither went into detail, but NeNe and Cynthia agreed that some of the bridesmaids bumped heads with one another.
“There was a lot of tears and stuff going on. There were definitely a lot of emotional moments during the bridesmaids trip for sure. Some may have been tears of joy. I don’t know what kind of tears there were, but there were a lot going on,” said Cynthia who tried to avoid the drama.
In contrast to some of members of her bridal party, NeNe remained pretty level-headed throughout the entire wedding process.
“NeNe was surprisingly calm through most of this,” said Cynthia. “I thought some of the bridesmaids were more Bridezilla than NeNe was.”
NeNe mentioned that former “RHOA” personality, Marlo Hampton, was a bit of a diva and that some of the bridesmaids forgot their role was to make her day special.
“They wanted to be the bride,” she said. “They just don’t understand the word ‘maid,’ at the end of bridesmaid. That means you help the bride.”
