First Look: ‘The Watsons Go to Birmingham’

    The Watsons Go to BirminghamWith the plight of Blacks in America from the period of civil rights to current time being a common conversation of interest in the media as of lately, what better time for Christopher Paul Curtis’ 1963 historical fiction novel, The Watson’s Go to Birmingham, to be brought to the screen?

    With the help of producer Tonya Lewis and director Kenny Lee, who also brought us A Raisin in the Sun (2008) and Steel Magnolias (2012), the film’s cast includes Anika Noni Rose, Wood Harris, Harrison Knight, Bryce Clyde Jenkins, LaTanya Richardson Jackson and others.

    This film is sure to be a conversation starter for families all around America.

    It will air as a Hallmark Channel Original Movie World Premier on Friday, September 20 at 8 p.m. EST.

    The project is part of “Walmart and P&G Present Walden Family Theater,” a new series of family movies that will air on the network.

    Other films that are included in the project are Space Warriors, Flicka, and Return to Nim’s Island.
