Deitrick Haddon wants Christians to be more transparent

Ericka: Now, Deitrick, you’ve always been ahead of the curve with your sound, with your look, the movies that you’ve been dong and writing. So why are you deciding to join the fray and do a reality show?

Deitrick: Because I cannot pass up the opportunity to share the gospel with 100 million homes on a weekly basis for eight weeks. People are interested in our culture and gospel music in the church, but everybody’s afraid to share the truth about who we are and what we do. And I think the next dimension of winning souls—or just sharing the gospel—is just being transparent. It’s not being fake and phony and up on the pulpit preaching to everybody else but not sharing who you really are or your flaws. That’s what has really turned people off in the church and made the church and the gospel a joke. We project all this perfection and when we have a humanity moment, people get all messed up and say, “See, I told you! That preacher. See. I told you! The church folk—“ this, that and the other. I feel that this show is really gonna show people who we are, and I hope that they will say, “Hey, this is a person that loves God; they’re true to their call or their assignment on earth, or their purpose, but yet they’re imperfect.” I think people will appreciate that. We don’t know. We have yet to see the effect it will have, but my agenda is to share my testimony with the world and show people who we really are as men of God and people who are trying to do what God has called them to do, even in their humanity.
