Kanye West believes that he was honoring God and his faith by bringing White Jesus on stage over the weekend.
Yeezy ruffled a few feathers when he brought out an actor portraying Christ, but the rapper revealed during a chat with WiLD 94.9 in San Francisco that he ran than idea past a holy man before he did so.
“I had a friend of mine that’s a pastor there as we started discussing how we wanted to deliver it,” Kanye revealed, adding that even his fiance Kim Kardashian was unsure about the move would be received. “My girl even asked afterwards, ‘Is that weird that Jesus comes on stage?'”
In Kanye’s opinion, his decision to have Jesus appear at one of his shows isn’t any different than other artistic renderings of the Lord, and he’s happy to be part of a faith that allows him such freedom of expression.
“What’s awesome about Christianity is that we’re able to portray God. We’re allowed to draw an image of him. We’re allowed to make movies about him. In other religions, you’re not allowed to do that,” Kanye pointed.
While his decision confused and even offended his fans, including other Christians, Kanye isn’t letting their opinions faze him. “God knows where my heart is at,” Kanye said. “One of the things that I wanted to really get across with that, is that you can have a relationship with Jesus, you can talk to Jesus.”
He continued, “Anytime the word Jesus can be used more in our lives, it’s a good thing.”
