Perri “Pebbles” Reid has released a statement about VH1’s CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story and she’s ready to take the network to court.
Aside from a few comments on Twitter and to S2S, Pebbles hasn’t released a full official statement about about her take on TLC’s biopic. The film depicted her as a manipulative, cut-throat, money-hungry control freak that would push the group members to exhaustion and beyond.
In a statement released on her website, the former TLC manager shared that the portrayal of her in the film was hurtful to her and her family, but it also motivated her to speak out. “My silence has empowered individuals looking for a payday at my expense. I have held my peace for 20 years and it’s time for the truth to come out,” Pebbles said in the statement.
“The movie contains many false and defamatory statements and scenes about me. Please know that I have never cheated or mislead anyone,” Pebbles stated in her own defense.
But she’s not content to just leave this matter for a statement. Pebbles revealed that she would be sharing her side of the story “in the appropriate venue at the appropriate time.” She did not go into detail about what this could mean or how the public may see this manifest.
In the meantime, Pebbles has her legal team preparing a lawsuit against VH1 as she seeks a formal apology from the network for CrazySexyCool. “I will defend my reputation, accomplishments and character,” Pebbles declared. “My attorney is in the process of demanding a retraction of the false and defamatory statements and scenes about me from VH1.”
Still, Pebbles said that she is proud of what she was able to accomplish with TLC and other acts. “I helped push doors open for TLC and other women in this male dominated industry, ” she concluded. “That backdrop makes the movie extremely personally upsetting to me.”
