Kenya Moore: Apollo ‘initiated the texts every time’

Kenya Moore, Real Housewives of AtlantaKenya Moore isn’t backing down from accusations that “Real Housewives of Atlanta”  hubby Apollo Nida sent her text messages, but she did clarify the content.

“There was never any inappropriate text message between Apollo and myself,” she said. “It was friendly, but he initiated the texts every time.”

Kenya explained that during the season 5 reunion show when she revealed that she and Phaedra Parks’ spouse had been communicating via text, she was responding to not-so-nice things he’d just said about her.

“I made a comment because someone said something that wasn’t nice about me. If you don’t care for me and you think I’m all of these negative things, then stop texting me,” she said. “When he said, ‘Oh, I don’t really care for her…,’ then don’t text message me in a friendly way.”

Kandi Burruss, who is a good friend of Phaedra’s, said she’s seen the text messages, and they were pretty vanilla, except for Kenya using a term of endearment when addressing Apollo.

“I did use the word ‘babe,’ but I didn’t use the word ‘baby,’” she told Bethenny Frankel on her show.

Kandi, who is currently engaged, didn’t quite agree with Kenya’s use of the word often reserved for lovers. “There are rules to it,” Kandi said about people corresponding with married friends.

“I think it’s ridiculous to think you can never text a married person who’s of the opposite sex,” Kenya said.

Of course text messaging isn’t the only reason “RHOA” cast members and viewers raised eyebrows over Kenya and Apollo’s relationship. During season 5, the two seemed to be flirting with one another with little shame. At one point Apollo picked Kenya up and jumped in a pool with her. Kenya, who was friendly with Phaedra at the time, even asked her co-star if there was a woman she’d loan Apollo to. Phaedra wasn’t too amused.

Despite their questionable behavior, Kenya denies that she crossed any lines with Apollo, and argued that there’s nothing wrong with a single woman chatting it up with a married man whose wife may or may not be aware.

As for Apollo, Kenya assured Phaedra that she’s not after her husband in any way.

“I don’t want your man. I’m nobody’s whore,” she said.
