Nia Long disses reality TV
Nia Long said fans might want to enjoy this go ’round of Black cinema while it lasts! In recent years, more Black films have been getting mainstream buzz. With her new movie The Best Man Holiday hitting theaters, Nia shared her thoughts on why that is.
“It’s cyclical,” Nia told ‘The Breakfast Club’ earlier this week. “I feel like there’s times when the black romantic comedy is the thing. And Kerry Washington‘s doing an amazing job with ‘Scandal,’ so now you’ll see a lot more black women on television.”
And by that she was not talking about reality TV. Despite all of the drama involved, you won’t catch Nia tuning in for “Basketball Wives,” “Love & Hip Hop” or even “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”
“They’re not actors. They’re trying to make them into actors,” Nia said. “They’re making money and they don’t have to pay them a lot. Which makes it hard for the actors that do get paid to act.”
She added, “Yeah, I’m not a fan. I think we’re portrayed in a negative way on most of these shows. I know me and my friends, we want to see stuff that’s smarter–that can entertain but also that’s intelligent.”
