Taye Diggs took to Twitter to clarify that a satirical story about his disdain for Black women was just a joke.
“Regarding the preposterous quote about black women: It is false. I have not and would never say such a thing. Ever. Period,” Taye wrote.
The Best Man star has been on many Black women’s Top 10 Most Fine list since How Stella Got Her Groove Back hit theaters, but his No. 1 is his wife, Idina Menzel, who is not an African American.
That little fact may be one reason the story from Cream Bmp Daily was taken seriously by a few readers.
According to the site, Taye was a little less than thrilled to be around his beautiful, Black The Best Man Holiday co-stars.
“Let’s just say it’s not a stereotype that black women are less submissive and harder to deal with. Being around them black women made me really miss my wife,” Taye reportedly said. “The only Black woman I ever loved is my mama.”
While the quote was seemingly fabricated as an attempt at humor, it’s true that Morris Chestnut is the only cast member of The Best Man Holiday who is married to a Black woman. Regina Hall and Sanaa Lathan are single. Nia Long and Melissa DeSousa are in relationships, but not married.
