Calvin: How did you get to collaborate with Chris Brown and Trey Songz?
August: That’s something right there, man. That just happened organically, just by doing me, and I tell people all the time that you can go a long way just by being yourself. I had just finished a show in Virginia and it’s ironic because they’re both from Virginia. Trey heard my song. He reached out and said, “Hey man, I just wanna let you know that I f#%k with you. I’m a fan and you that new kid on the block, and whatever I can do to help I wanna do.” He sent over the verse and I heard it and I was like it makes all the sense in the world to go get Chris ‘cause this is the young poppin’ movement. So, I had everybody in my squad reach out to Chris and Chris was like, “Man, I already heard the original and of course I’ll do it.” It’s my very first single. I’m a very new artist and I still got a lot to prove, but with my very first single to be able to approach something so monumental like that and to be able to align myself with those type of people, it’s no telling where you could go. Me, Trey and Chris, we done built something where it’s a friendship. Like, those are my brothers and I can hit ‘em ‘bout anything and chop it up ‘bout anything.
