“R&B Divas: LA” newbies Chrisette Michele and Leela James don’t plan to bring any crazy drama to season 2 of the show when it premieres in 2014.
“[My mother] raised me in a manner where she said, ‘You act like you got sense, “ Leela assured Roland Martin on “NewsOneNow.”
Chrisette cosigned that she’s already been warned by family members and friends to not act out of character on the show.
“My mother would probably be the first person to pop me upside the head in front of the camera,” said Chrisette.
Last season, tension was high between some of the divas. There was even a question about whether one co-star was physically threatened by another. However, the network seems to want to keep the new season classy.
“The debut season of ‘R&B Divas: LA’ set the tone as a series all about glamour and high stakes drama,” SVP of Programming and Production D’Angela Proctor said in a press release. “We anticipate that the addition of two lovely and respected solo artists, Chrisette and Leela, will build upon the impassioned, ever-evolving group dynamic that season 1 viewers embraced.”
According to TV One, Chrisette and Leela will be joining returning stars Chante Moore, Lil’ Mo, Michel’le and Claudette Ortiz.
For those who were holding out hope that Kelly Price would return to the show, the network’s announcement makes her departure official, along with her faithful friend Dawn Robinson.
“They made a decision that I was a problem for them,” Kelly told Sister 2 Sister after season 1 aired. “They solved the problem.”
It remains to be seen whether the newbies will forge friendships with the returning cast members, but fans seem hopeful.
“I’m watching. These ladies can blow too and are very current! Good catch TV One,” wrote TVOne.tv user Nyk.
