Anyone hoping to snag a physical copy of Beyoncé at Target is fresh out of luck! The discount department store is refusing to sell Beyoncé’s latest album.
Following the surprise release of Beyoncé on Friday 13, most retailers will receive the CD on Friday 20. All except one.
Target announced today that it would not be stocking Bey’s Beyoncé because she released a digital version before putting out a CD. With 618,000 copies sold, Target doesn’t see how there’s still enough demand left to warrant carrying the album.
“At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections,” a rep for Target said in a statement to Billboard.
This is a huge departure from their stance on Bey’s last album 4, which had an exclusive edition just for Target! It doesn’t look like Beyoncé will be getting the same treatment, unfortunately
“While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyoncé in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats,” “At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyoncé’s new self-titled album ‘Beyonce.’”
