“Saturday Night Live” has just added more Black women, who are comedy pros, to its creative team!
On the heels of news that “SNL” has just added it’s first Black woman to cast in five years by hiring Sasheer Zamata, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that the show also added some flavor to the writers’ room.
As of Monday, LaKendra Tookes and Leslie Jones joined the writing team! Both ladies were discovered at the highly publicized audition last year. Although they didn’t get the onscreen gig, they impressed the people to still snag a spot behind the scenes.
The new hires effectively address some of the concerned rumblings on the Internet that the team of writers for “SNL” wouldn’t know how to create good material for Sasheer since there were no Black women on the staff.
Anyone who’s watching “Comic View,” “Russell Simmon’s Def Comedy Jam” or “Chelsea Lately” will be familiar with Leslie since she’s been doing standup comedy for years.
LaKendra is a comedic actress, who started out her professional life as news reporter in Florida. Flip ahead to see LaKendra, Leslie and Sasheer in action!
