Gabrielle Union’s got a few simple rules to live (and love) by and she’s sharing them with you!
Although Gabrielle’s own love life has been under a microscope for the past few weeks, she’s still dished with Glamour magazine about what she thinks makes a relationship work and what can hurt it.
DO forget your “type”
When women are looking for The One, many often get hung up on what they think their ideal partner should be. Sometimes, though, Mr. Right might not fit that particular. Gabrielle suggests being a little more open to how love may look when it finally shows up in your life.
“It worked for me. When I met Dwyane, his ‘résumé’ looked like crap: athlete, going through a divorce, nine years younger than me. None of that screamed, ‘Let’s have a lasting relationship,'” she explained.
“Then, after I had a heart-crushing breaking with yet another immature jerk, I thought, it can’t be any worse if I date a fetus. Let’s just see what happens,” Gabrielle continued. “Turned out he’d been on his own since he was 15. He had wisdom that comes with facing an insane amount of adversity. He’s sweet, funny, honest about his shortcomings. When I put my preconceived notions to the side, I found someone cool.””
