Rihanna talks Viva Glam
Rihanna has expanded her presence at MAC Cosmetics by becoming the new face of this year’s Viva Glam campaign. Rihanna’s already familiar with the brand, having created her own collection that featured her RiRi Woo shade. Now MAC has created her new signature color for the Viva Glam campaign.
The initiative uses proceeds from the sale of certain items to help the fight against HIV/AIDS. “Buying the lipstick really is the most important part of this because 100 percent of the cost–I mean every penny you spend on the lipstick or the lip glass goes to the MAC AIDS Fund,” Rihanna told “Good Morning America” yesterday. “Our goal is to raise $40 million with the Viva Glam Rihanna campaign.”
And the MAC AIDS Fund is going to pay it forward as MAC give a $2 million grant to UNAIDS. That organization is focused on prevention of HIV/AIDS among younger people. “It’s the youth, they’re a little more naieve to the reality of the disease and how big it really is. How much of an epidemic it is amongst young people, specifically.” Rihanna explained. “More than half of the new infections are people 24 years old and under. It’s really scary.”
Rihanna was thrilled to add her name to the campaign because she’s onboard with the message MAC is trying to send and how they’re choosing to do it. “The thing abut MAC as a brand that I really love and embrace is that they don’t judge. They’re not here to say, ‘Be perfect.’ They want you to have fun,” Rihanna said. “But you have to be responsible; you have to be safe. Protect yourself. You have to look out for yourself. No body else can do that for you. It’s a real disease.”
The Viva Glam Rihanna lipstick will run you about $16, but the lipglass only costs $15. If you can’t find it at a MAC Cosmetics counter near you, you can always order it online!
