NeNe Leakes has accused Marlo Hampton of being an opportunist, and while Marlo didn’t deny it, she explained how fame has changed their friendship.
“I’ve been called an opportunist, often! But honestly, who among us does not take advantage of opportunities that improve the quality of our lives and allow us to realize our dreams?” Marlo reasoned on her blog Tuesday.
Marlo’s prose seems to confirm rumors that she and NeNe Leakes have fallen out since Marlo served as a bridesmaid at NeNe’s wedding. It seems Marlo blames NeNe’s fame for the demise of their relationship.
“That ‘taste’ of Hollywood is like fresh, sweet ice cream. The only problem is, eventually it will melt and the ‘taste’ will fade leaving not even a linger of flavor…,” she wrote.
According to Marlo, she should have known better than to expect a real friendship from NeNe.
“I didn’t let the warnings from Kandi [Burruss] and Phaedra [Parks] deter me from giving her the benefit of the doubt. I looked up to her as a big sister since she and my oldest sister…are the same age,” Marlo explained. “I really thought she understood where I came from and how I was trying to change my life for the better, just as she had done.”
The two women seemed to form a fast friendship when Marlo first popped up on “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” but viewers of NeNe’s wedding special likely remember that NeNe’s friend, Diana Gowin, accused Marlo of taking advantage of NeNe. Shortly after that, rumors that NeNe and Marlo’s relationship was damaged began to surface. Apparently, NeNe now agrees with her longtime friend Diana, but that’s not her only beef with Marlo.
In a preview for Sunday’s all-new episode, tensions flare between Marlo and NeNe, who seems to be unhappy about Marlo’s friendship with Kenya Moore.
“While Kenya and I are not best friends, (we only met recently) I refuse to let others determine whether or not I should befriend her,” Marlo wrote. “She has done nothing but support me and whenever we’re together we always have a grand ole time.”
In her blog, posted prior to Marlo’s, NeNe seemed to throw shade at Marlo and Cynthia.
“I have worked with a lot of women over the years, and the one thing that it has taught me is that life is like an elevator—on your way, you have to let people off!” NeNe wrote.
Marlo used a different elevator metaphor. “Perhaps some of us should learn the meaning of humility because just like an elevator, the people you put off, might be the same ones you want to hold the door when you’re trying to back on.”
Marlo also seemed to take offense to a comment NeNe made on the latest episode after begrudgingly arriving at Kenya’s masquerade ball.
“None of these b_tc#es here are on the level that I’m on,” NeNe quipped.
To that, Marlo responded: “Unlike some of us, I don’t believe that there are people who ‘are not on my level!’ Last I heard, God created all of us equal.”
