A judge has ordered Da Brat to dig deep into her pockets to pay for the damages she caused one woman after hitting her with a bottle.
The “Funkdafied” rapper, who was released from lockup in 2011, was slapped with a sizable ruling in the case that sent her to prison. In 2007, Da Brat attacked a woman named Shayla Stevens at an Atlanta night club, smashing a bottle in the former NFL cheerleader’s face.
Da Brat was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault, but that was not the end of her legal troubles. Shayla, who once cheered for the Atlanta Falcons, sued the rapper in 2009.
TMZ.com reports that there was a snag in the civil suit this week as one juror admitted Wednesday that he is not a United States citizen. However, it didn’t take the new jury very long to make the decision that Da Brat was at fault for causing Shayla permanent facial scarring, neurological impairment and severe mental pain.
The jury awarded Shayla with $3.7 million for her injuries and to cover the loss of her past and future earnings. Then the jury determined Da Brat should pay the victim another $2.7 million as further punishment for the attack.
