In her latest role, Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Set It Off star Kimberly Elise plays what just might be the most inspirational woman you’ve never heard of in Up network’s first ever original film, Apple Mortgage Cake.
In the film, Angela Logan is faced with the daunting prospect of losing her house. Against all odds, Angela decides to bake and sell cakes to try to raise $4,000 in 10 days.
“It was an easy decision to do this film,” Kimberly told Sister 2 Sister. “I read [the script] and I thought it was just such a beautiful story, and so inspirational and the fact that it’s a true story, I couldn’t believe it,” she added.
The John Q actress got to spend some time with the real Angela Logan and says hearing her talk about her story still resonates with her.
“Angela is actually also an actress, so she has a small part in the film,” noted Kimberly who continued, “I had a lot of opportunity to talk to her and hear her story and get to know her and it was so, even more powerful, even now when I do interviews and talk about it and I hear her story again, even though I played her, I still get goosebumps and chills. I just think she’s amazing.”
Though the film deals with a dire situation, it manages to sprinkle in some humor as well, which was something that had Kimberly even more excited to take on the part.
