Taylor Coleman: ‘Preachers’ Daughters’ helped her family

“My parents and I are actually very, very close now,” Taylor told Sister 2 Sister. “I’m more open and honest with them when there are things that I’m struggling with. I’m not afraid to come to them anymore. I was afraid to tell them things. They are really understanding and open-minded with me. Watching the show, all of us grew as a family.”

Viewers of the show, which follows men and women of God and their daughters, might remember that Taylor was a bit rebellious in season 1, lying to her parents at times to hang out at parties and sneak around with boys.

“I know there are a lot of people who tend to judge and think that a preacher’s daughter is perfect,” she said. “I want to help show people that I’m not perfect. All preachers’ kids aren’t perfect. We go through the same things others go through.”

Taylor said that close relationship with her parents has helped her deal with the critics and harsh judgment.

“To me, that’s really, really helpful. People are really rude…my parents always told me that they love me, the people I care about love me. I shouldn’t’ worry about what people have to say.”

Given what she’s learned, Taylor said she would advise other rebellious teens to reach out to their parents before acting out in harmful behavior.

“If I would have talked to my parents, a lot of things I’ve done probably wouldn’t have happened,” she said.
