Despite her success on the airwaves, Wendy Williams revealed that her parents were a bit mortified by her radio career.
Most parents whose children have a popular, nationally syndicated would be pretty proud of that accomplishment. Not in Wendy’s family!
“My parents were very embarrassed by the way I conducted myself on the radio and I know that,” Wendy admitted to Uptown magazine. “They would fake happy, meanwhile their friends would say, ‘That Wendy is something else.’ But I was getting popularity from being that ‘something else.'”
Despite the fact that she was able to make a good living off of her outrageous personality, Wendy’s parents may have hoped that she’d do something a little more traditional like her siblings. “I don’t think that was what my parents had in mind when they thought of my career. My older sister is an attorney and my younger brother is a schoolteacher,” Wendy explained. “No, I wasn’t out there doing full splits in Playboy magazine, but it is still not what my parents would have wanted me to gravitate to.”
Wendy, however, feels pretty good about the trajectory of her radio career and she wouldn’t change anything about the path she’s taken. “I regret nothing in my radio career, nothing. I had to be that person back then to be the person I am today,” she said. “The person who was on the radio then was authentically me. We all have our sloppy, greasy side.”
She added, “I am glad that I have been able to evolve….I am so glad that I can still be that girl, but on TV. Yes! Who I am right now is exactly who I was on radio. The difference is, now I am 49 years old.”
Wendy’s TV brand means that she gets to say it like she means it all times, so she didn’t hold back when she blasted Apollo Nida for spending thousands of dollars at strip clubs. Flip ahead to see what she said!
