Monifah Carter’s daughter disapproves of her romance

Sometimes the newbies have a hard time adjusting when joining the casts of reality shows featuring women who’ve already had seasons to bond, but Monifah said she welcomed LaTavia Roberson with open arms.

According to Monifah, she could relate to the obstacles LaTavia had to overcome after she was dismissed from Destiny’s Child.

“When she first came on, she said that after she left the group—or was replaced—that she turned to alcohol, and I definitely can relate to that. When things shifted for me, when I got dropped from [Universal Records]…it inadvertently kicked up some abandonment issues that I already had.”

Monifah shared with Wendy, who has been transparent about her own battle with drugs, that she was using cocaine to help cope with her pain.

“It didn’t start right away. It definitely was a couple of years later,” she said. “It was just the pain, just trying to distract and escape.”
