Beyoncé, Jay Z and Solange have finally released a statement on his infamous altercation with her sister Solange after the 2014 Met Gala.
After days of public speculation (and ridicule) the trio have broken their silence on the incident, which went public when a surveillance video leaked online. Although they still aren’t hinting about what may have led up to the Solange attack Jay Z, this is the first time that they have explicitly acknowledged it.
“As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident,” they said in the joint statement. “But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it.”
A day after the video of the altercation went public, Jay Z and Solange were spotted at a jewelry store together, as they spent some time alone in an attempt to patch things up.
“Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred,” the statement continued. “They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”
