Celebrity couple Flex and Shanice Alexander have some lessons to teach with their new show “Flex & Shanice: All in the Family.”
A sneak peek of the new OWN reality series airs Saturday at 10 p.m. EST, and the two hope viewers will realize being famous doesn’t necessarily mean being rich.
“We went from making millions of dollars to literally absolutely nothing,” comedian Flex says in the opening of the show.
The “One on One” actor said he and his wife had to adjust when the jobs stopped coming their way. His sitcom was cancelled after five seasons and Shanice was dropped after a few singles, including “I Love Your Smile.”
Flex said he and Shanice are just victims of unemployment and an unstable economy just like thousands of others hit hard by the recession. He also wasn’t as good at saving money as his wife.
“We didn’t do anything extravagant,” Flex said, explaining that the show focuses on “what we’ve gone through financially.”
Viewers will meet the couple’s kids, Imani and Elijah, and extended family with whom they live in a rental home.
Though they could use it, Flex and Shanice said they’re not just signing on to do a reality show because of the money. “It’s lessons to be learned,” said Flex.
