Sherri Shepherd learning from divorce

Despite her heartbreak, Sherri Shepherd is looking for the lessons in her split from Lamar Sally.

Many divorcees might torment themselves thinking about all the things they could have done to save their relationships, or how they married the wrong person, but Sherri refuses to do so.

“I say you can’t beat yourself up when you know you’ve made the wrong choice in a guy,” she told “You look. You do some introspective work, and you try not to make the same mistake.”

“The View” co-host continued, “If you do, get back up, dust your feet off, and start walking and moving forward.”

Sherri filed for divorce on May 2 after nearly three years of marriage to Lamar. The breakup comes as the two are expecting a baby to be delivered by surrogate this summer. Sherri already has an 8-year-old son named Jeffrey. She credits him as her major motivation to stay strong and keep going.

“When the dust settles, you figure out what went wrong—but as long as you’re alive and you can breathe, you [can] get up and keep going,” Sherri added. “For me, my child can’t afford to see mommy having a nervous breakdown. It’s not in the cards.”

Of course, Sherri does acknowledge that her friends have played a huge part in helping her keep it together. “Have really good friends around you, so you have a soft landing place,” she advised. The “NickMom Night Out” host shared that her friends have even taken to social media to keep her encouraged whenever she feels down and posts something emotional. “I have a lot of really wonderful friends [who] say ‘erase that!’”
