Angie Martinez revealed that Hot 97 was supportive of her decision to take her talents to Power 105.1.
For years, the radio juggernauts have had a very public rivalry. When Angie resigned from Hot 97, listeners were disappointed. It was the ultimate shock, though, when she announced the very next day that she’d signed a deal with Clear Channel to be on Power 105!
The crew at Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club” got a chance to sit down with Angie to welcome her to the station’s family. She insisted that it wasn’t a personally motivated move. “It’s business and people leave jobs all the time. I’m not disloyal at all. I have always been extremely loyal,” Angie explained.
Ultimately the powers that be over at Hot 97 understood that Power 105 made her an offer she just couldn’t refuse. “Even the highest of higher ups–which is when I went to make the phone call when I decided to take this amazing offer that I got,” Angie shared. “They said, ‘You’ve served this company so well [and for] so many years, I can do nothing but wish you well.'”
She added, “Nobody was angry. Nobody felt like I was doing the wrong thing. Everyone said this is the right thing for you to do for your career and your life.”
