“Married to Medicine” is still going strong in season 2 which has been a huge success for Bravo with the help of the “YAAASS HONEY” diva herself, Mariah Huq.
Mariah recently dished on turning down “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” pitching “Married to Medicine,” mixing friendships and business, and new projects.
“I was approached by ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta,’ but instead of doing that show, my husband and I thought we should do a show around our world, the medical world.” Mariah told “ARise Entertainment 360” hosts Shannon Laneir and Lola Ogunnaike.
“It was a very tough sale,” said Mariah who had pitched the “Married to Medicine” concept to different people like Russell Simmons and Stan Lathan, but it was turned down.
According to Mariah, the constructive criticism she received helped her and eventually the show was picked up with offers from different networks like TLC, but she chose to go with Bravo.
With a show like “Married to Medicine,” Mariah wanted to embody something like the fictional Cosby family, which she grew up watching. “I wanted to show minority families that are successful, married families that viewers would be able to relate to,” said Mariah.
Mariah explained that her show isn’t just popular because of the drama, but because viewers are able to relate to at least one of the women on the show.
