Nicki Minaj denies throwing shade at Iggy Azalea

TwitPics_NickiMinaj_61914The 2014 BET Awards aired Sunday, and once again Nicki Minaj took home “Best Female Hip Hop Artist,” but her speech that came with the acceptance had everyone’s eyebrows raised. While the Young Money artist wanted it to be known that all her material is written by her.

“When you hear Nicki Minaj spit, just know Nicki Minaj wrote it,” she said. Even though Nicki continuously said ‘No Shade’ while serving tea, most automatically thought she was referring to nominee Iggy Azalea, a fellow nominee in the category who had performed with T.I. earlier in the evening.

It’s no big leap for most to assume Nicki’s shade was directed at Iggy.  Forbes magazine said that the ‘Fancy’ Iggy Azalea was running Hip-Hop, and Nicki didn’t have much to say but chuckle when asked how she felt, during a interview with “The Breakfast Club” radio show.

The buzz has been insane all over the Internet as questions continue about Nicki’s speech and whether or not she was secretly throwing shade at Iggy. But, Nicki quickly put an end to the rumors, and let it be known that what she said had nothing to do with any nominated artist, and especially not Iggy.

While scores of Iggy’s fans were upset, the Grand Hustle rapper responded via social media to inform the world that she was unfazed by the comments.

“Generally speaking I’m unbothered by anything that ‘happened’ at the BET awards,” she wrote. “I hate to see everyone exhausting themselves on my behalf over things that I’m not even 100% sure exist & don’t matter. just let it go.”

Nicki also took to twitter to address her speech and speculation of it being addressed to Iggy.

“The media puts words in my mouth all the time and this is no different. I will always take a stance on women writing because I believe in us.” She wrote. “I’ve congratulated Iggy on the success of Fancy publicly. She should be very proud of that. All the women nominated should be proud.”
