LaTavia Roberson: Grammys prove her ‘diva’ worthiness

LaTavia_RobersonIf LaTavia Roberson knew then what she knows now, she may have never signed on to join “R&B Divas: Atlanta.”

The former Destiny’s Child member said she thought her reality TV storyline would be about her trying to decide whether or not to return to the music industry. Instead, she was thrust onstage just weeks after taping began.

“If I had known within three weeks [they would want] for me to do a one-night only show, I wouldn’t have done it,” explained LaTavia who hadn’t performed in front of an audience in more than 10 years. Had she had her way, she wouldn’t have reintroduced herself to the world that way.

“I wouldn’t want to do it that way. So, it really sucked. Then, they edited it on down. I started looking on the show myself like, ‘Why am I on this show?’ Is the only thing I know how to say is, ‘I don’t want to sing?’” she said to V-103 DJ Big Tigger.

While some viewers have criticized LaTavia for not singing each time she was asked, she said she has nothing to prove to those who doubt her diva worthiness.

“My mantel at my house shows why I’m a diva. I say that in the most humbling way. I have Grammys. I feel very honored to even possess those trophies. I didn’t win those Grammys just because I was in the group… I won one of my Grammys for writing,” she said. “It was earned.”
