Many people know Keshia Chante as the co-host of one of America’s top-rated hip-hop and R&B countdown shows, “106 & Park,” but she is definitely not new to fame.
Keisha has been in the entertainment business for a while now as a singer and a songwriter. Before becoming the face of “106 & Park,” Keshia was already signed to a record deal, putting out albums, and winning 5 Urban Music Awards at a young age.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Canada, growing up Keshia already knew what it felt like to be famous by the time she was 13. She was always singing in talent shows and very determined to make her dreams come true.
“I was the kind of person that would go to a venue and be like ‘Hi, do you have any concerts? I want to perform.’ I was the 12 year old that really wanted to make it happen.”
Which she did. By 12 years old she was signed to Sony BMG, which is now called Sony Music. At that time, Sony BMG gave her a one-song deal because they weren’t sure how she was going to deliver, especially at such a young age.
“That song ended up going number two or three on the radio and it did really well,” Keshia told Sister 2 Sister.
Later, the record label signed Keshia to an album deal, and everything sky rocketed from there. She released three albums in Canada, toured, released an album in Japan, and was named Best New Artist at Canadian Music Awards.
While being signed to Sony Urban, Keshia has met some great entertainers along the way, and that’s where she met her co-host Bow Wow for the very first time.
Being in the states and forming a close bond with the BET family, Keshia received a random call to come out and host “106 & Park” with Terrence J, and unexpectedly fell in love with it. When Rocsi Diaz and Terrence J were replaced it was this hidden talent Keshia Chante and Mr. 106 & Park Bow Wow, who took their spots.
