Kim Burrell addresses ‘Sunday Best’ confrontation

Kim_BurrellThough she denied worrying about it, Kim Burrell took time during a recent performance to address a “Sunday Best” audition confrontation during which she was called “rude” for laughing during a contestant’s evaluation.

“I’m sweet,” she told her live audience. “I’m a sweet lady and I love God. I don’t need to hurt people.”

During the premiere episode of “Sunday Best,” returning hopeful Dennis Christopher Brigham gave the judging panel an earful, and not just with his singing. As Kierra Sheard attempted to critique his audition, Kim and Donnie McClurkin engaged in a side conversation, complete with giggles and laughter.

Dennis, obviously taking their distraction personally, told Kim that he felt disrespected by her and Donnie.

“Kim Burrell, I want to let y’all know this. I think it is very rude and disrespectful for y’all to be up here laughing like that because I used my rent money and everything and for y’all to be sitting up here disrespectful like that and laughing, that is so wrong,” said Dennis. “I been stop liking you last year.”

Later in the episode, Dennis returned to apologize, and Kim responded with an apology of her own.

During the recent concert, Kim expressed that she was more bothered by others’ reactions to the confrontation than she was by what transpired on the show.

“It’s almost like the church is waiting for us to turn on each other. Instead of posting that he apologized, and I apologized back to him, they wanna talk about this other stuff,” said Kim. “I don’t want y’all to get it twisted.”

Kim reiterated to her fans that the conversation she and Donnie were having that day had nothing to do with Dennis’ performance.
