Zoe Saldana has been in a few sour relationships. Now because of it, she knows her worth and what she deserves.
“You cross me as a lady, it’s over,” Zoe said in a recent Marie Claire issue. “I have been in relationships where a man has disrespected me, and I don’t need to be friends with that man anymore. I don’t want to be the one going, ‘I’m cool, because I’m friends with all my exes.’ There’s a reason why you’re called an ex. I crossed you off my list. Moving on. You cross a line, you need to know that you’re going to walk this earth knowing that there’s an individual who has no respect for you.”
Zoe, 36, is still considered a newlywed by some standards, and she understands what it means to be patient and not to rush when trying to find your soul mate.
“If you’re not happy with a person, leave,” said Zoe who advises women not to settle. “Wait until you find that one person who makes you feel good about yourself every single day and is not expecting you to change, but to grow.”
She has been married to her husband, Marco Perego, since 2013. Ever since they met, she knew that he was the one. “I don’t do the ABCs. I do what my heart says, what my heart feels. So from the moment I met my husband, we were together. We knew,” said Zoe who described herself as an “iron-fisted lady.”
Fans have come to know Zoe from movies such as Guess Who, Drumline, Avatar and Star Trek. She will be starring in a new movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, next month.
Though she has played various roles, there are still a few that she dreams of playing one day.
“I would love to play Nefertiti or Cleopatra or the Queen of Sheba. We preserve more male history than we do female. We have to preserve it. No more complaining. We have to do it.”
