On his series “Rush,” Larenz Tate is a husband whose best friend is a single man happily living the bachelor life and that causes a bit of drama.
In real life, Larenz said he doesn’t see a problem with married men hanging out with their single buddies, but only when they exercise some discipline.
“As long as you keep it in the realm of decency and respect, why not?” he reasoned with Sister 2 Sister. “When you get married that doesn’t mean your life changes. It’s just that that’s the commitment that you’ve made to that person. It’s a choice. We’re choosing to do this. At the same time, you have to keep up your end of your responsibility of what’s at home.”
While things are getting complicated for his fictional character Dr. Alex, Larenz said he has his priorities straight when it comes to the real world.
That suggests that any Love Jones fans looking for a Darius Lovehall scenario with Larenz should let go of the fantasy. Though he’s been described as a “heartthrob” for that classic film role and a few others, he said he doesn’t really consider himself a sex symbol.
“I like it; I guess,” he said. “I think that’s so subjective. There are a lot of people that don’t think I’m a sex symbol, but for those who do, I appreciate it. Whatever it is that they see that they like, I hope I can continue to deliver.”
