Bishop Noel Jones has received a lot of criticism for his relationship with his longtime girlfriend who he may or may not be intimate with, but he explained why he’s not rushing into marriage.
“Paul wasn’t married. He was probably one of the greatest progenitors of the Word of God,” Noel told the V-103 radio in Atlanta recently. “Many significant Bible characters were not married. Marriage is not a prerequisite for being in the pulpit.”
“Preachers of L.A.” viewers and Noel’s cast mate Bishop Ron Gibson aren’t necessarily urging Noel to marry Loretta, the woman who co-stars alongside him on the show; however, they question whether Noel has sworn off sex outside of marriage the way the apostle Paul did.
That’s something neither Noel nor Loretta have addressed for the show’s viewers. However, Noel did bring up a point about divorce and whether remarrying is Biblically encouraged.
“Remarriage is really a great issue from a scriptural viewpoint,” said Noel who was married 22 years and admits he’s afraid to do it again. “Divorce is cool. Jesus said you make yourself a eunuch for the Kingdom of God’s sake.”
While he acknowledges that his relationship with Loretta may cause some Christians to raise an eyebrow or scratch their heads, Noel said he’s not too worried about what other people think.
“Do you live your life based completely on what looks good?” he asked. “What you know is right and what you know feels good to you, that’s what you do.”
