Is it possible the entire Solange Knowles vs. Jay-Z elevator footage was a publicity stunt? That’s what Mathew Knowles suggested in a recent interview.
Solange’s father didn’t seem to concerned about any existing family turmoil and instead pointed out that the incident boosted ticket and album revenue for Solange, Jay and Beyoncé.
“Sometimes ignite that tour. It’s called a Jedi Mind Trick. The Jedi Mind Trick fools you a lot of times,” he told Houston radio station KRBE. “Everybody’s talking about it. Ticket sales went up. Solange’s album sales went up 200 percent.”
It’s no secret that scandal can bring more attention to an artist’s work. Some have accused musicians and reality stars of creating chaos just to help increase interest and sales.
However, artists with the reputations of the Carters normally don’t need such antics to keep their fans interested. When Beyoncé, Jay and Solange have dared to broach the topic of the elevator bout, none has ever suggested that it was fabricated.
No matter the reason behind the drama, it seems to be a thing of the past now, and Mathew is looking to the future, which may resurrect the past.
“It might be another Destiny’s child album coming,” he said. “There might be this tour that makes history, Destiny’s Child featuring Beyoncé, Kelly [Rowland] and Michelle [Williams]. Can you imagine what that would be like?
