Fans are in for the Whitney Houston tribute that the iconic singer deserves, according to LL Cool J who’ll be participating in “We Will Always Love You: A Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston,” airing November 16.
“This is the opportunity for us to finish what we started at the Grammys, which is celebrate Whitney’s legacy but really make it about Whitney because she’s worthy of this. Her life and her music and her legacy is worthy of being celebrated on this level,” LL told “Access Hollywood.”
The hour-long special was taped last week but is scheduled to air next month. It will include performances by Jennifer Hudson, CeCe Winans and Yolanda Adams.
“It’s going to be great, but it’s gonna be hard at the same time,” said CeCe, who is Bobbi Kristina Brown’s godmother. “We were real friends. We were real sisters."
While Whitney was honored at the Grammys, which aired the same weekend as her untimely death, and at various music events throughout the year, this will be one of the first that is solely dedicated to the “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” singer. Along with performances, the special offers rare footage of Whitney, including her TV debut on “The Merv Griffin Show,” according to USA Today.
J.Hud took the stage and reportedly opened the show, dressed in an outfit similar to one Whitney wore in the ‘80s.
“I want to have a celebration. Let’s celebrate her life and remember all the greatness and happy moments that she gave us, and just lift everybody up and look at it in a positive way,” Jennifer said. “Her music, it still feels good. It’s timeless. Her energy and her spirit, it still lives on.”
Clive Davis, Taraji P. Henson, Britney Spears, Usher and Halle Berry were also in attendance to reminisce about their time with the singing legend.
“She inspired a generation of little girls and women to believe in their own dreams and to know that they had within themselves the greatest gift of all,” said Halle. “I was one of those little girls who then became a woman who never, ever, ever, stopped loving Whitney Houston.”
