A youth football coach has been arrested after slapping a referee in the face during a game in Florida.
The South Florida Sentinel reports that assistant coach Dion Robinson was taken into custody on Monday for striking an official named Andrew Kiegans. The whole thing went down during a youth league game between the West Park Saints and the Miramar Patriots on Saturday night.
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s office, Andrew called a penalty against Dion for unsportsmanlike conduct after he heard the Saints assistant coach make a derogatory statement. Dion then confronted him about the call. As a result of the coach walking onto the field during play, Andrew ended the game, giving the win to the Patriots.
In video of the incident posted to YouTube, Dion supposedly shoves Andrew before he’s pulled away. Meanwhile another referee tried to remove Andrew from the situation, but they were pursued by several angry officials from the losing team.
Dion can then be seen coming around the crowd to slap Andrew in the face. He hit Andrew so hard that the referee fell to the ground. Most shocking is that this incident took place in front of all the kids on both teams. Dion has since been arrested for battery, but this is not his first run in with the law.
Authorities said Dion has a criminal history that includes aggravated assault, assault with a firearm and several arrests for cocaine distribution.
