For NeNe Leakes, losing her privacy has been the worst part of fame.
The “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star has catapulted from obscurity to celebrity status since the series first premiered five seasons ago.
Her life has completely changed now that she’s the series’ breakout star who’s secured recurring roles on two network series, “Glee” and “The New Normal.”
She’s now so popular and well known that everyday activities, like running errands, require an escort or an assistant.
“The curse to me, the biggest curse of all, is losing my privacy. I’m very private. I have my couple little girlfriends; we love to chit chat, but I like to go to the supermarket myself. I like to go shopping myself. I like driving my car myself, and I’m a loner. I like to be alone, but I can’t do that anymore,” she said.
NeNe also admitted that having the public all in her personal life is an aspect of the Hollywood life that she could do without.
“People wanna know about everything: your relationship. Did you break up? Who you’re dating? Where are the kids? What’s going on? What color’s your shoe? What kind of handbag? Did you get a haircut? It’s just like, Jesus, give me a break,” she said.
NeNe’s relationship with her ex-husband Gregg Leakes has been fodder for tabloids and celebrity magazines since the two split. Now that they’re rumored to be back together, that’s drawn even more attention from many media outlets.
Also, NeNe’s older son, Bryson, has had a few run-ins with the law. He’s rarely even seen on “RHOA,” but since he’s now the son of a celebrity, his actions are deemed newsworthy.
Despite the annoyances of it all, NeNe couldn’t deny the positive things that have come as a result of her rise to fame.
“You get to make great connections. You get so many business opportunities thrown at you. You make good money,” she said.
