T-Boz is heading for reality TV, but she distinguishes herself from those no-talent celebrities who might not have been known at all if it weren’t for the genre.
“Reality shows … People can be celebrities, meaning you’re just on TV. That does not mean you’re a talented star or a superstar. That’s a difference,” said T-Boz, whose show, “Totally T-Boz,” is reportedly heading to TLC soon.
The singer didn’t call out any reality stars by name, but she said she has little appreciation for those who don’t have any real talent to justify their fame.
“Just because you’re on TV gyrating and boning and sucking penises, it’s not talent, honey. Maybe in the porn industry, but over here, we entertain. We sing songs. We write. We dance. That’s what we do, and that’s an artist,” she said.
The TLC member, whose signature alto voice helped launch the trio to international fame, also has an issue with reality competition shows that choose judges based on their popularity.
“I don’t support them shows no more ‘cause it’s not about the talent. The show is supposed to be about people who deserve to be sitting there: Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, the list goes on…” said T-Boz, who questioned why rappers, like Nicki Minaj, are now judging would-be singers.
“Now, they got rappers who don’t even sing, judging. So, this is totally based off of popularity. To each their own, get your money, honey, but all I’m saying is that I will never watch your shows again,” said T-Boz.
Not surprisingly, T-Boz’s comments resulted in a backlash from Nicki’s fans. However, she clarified that she has nothing against the "American Idol" judge.
"I don’t hv a problem w/ Nikki. I don’t like what the shows stand for. Where’s the lil yellow bus beep beep. Y’all don’t think I’m mad or bothered, we’re over here cracking up cuz they going off over the wrong things it’s sad but funny.”
