Beyoncé is literally becoming the face of Pepsi in a new $50 million deal with the soda company.
The New York Times reports that Bey has entered into a deal with Pepsi that goes way beyond the usual endorsement contract. Instead of just having Bey do a commercial, the partnership is being billed as a "hybrid project with Beyoncé that will include standard advertising like commercials as well as a multimillion-dollar fund to support the singer’s chosen creative projects."
For example, under this new deal, Pepsi will provide major publicity for her upcoming album, live concerts, videos, photo shoots and anything else that Bey thinks she can add to the brand.
"Pepsi embraces creativity and understands that artists evolve," Bey said in statement. "As a businesswoman, this allows me to work with a lifestyle brand with no compromise and without sacrificing my creativity.”
It’s a move that makes sense to Bey’s Parkwood Entertainment company. “It’s wise for a brand like Pepsi to give an artist the ability to truly express herself, instead of just the old-school way of, ‘Do you want to be in an advertisement?’ This is much bigger," said Parkwood general manager Lee Anne Callahan-Longo. "This is, ‘How can we create something together that is truly unique?’”
The biggest buzz to come out of the deal so far, though, is the fact that Beyonce’s face will be plastered on a Limited Edition series of Pepsi cans. The cans will first be released in Europe in March. In the meantime, a shot of the first ad was released today, and it will appear in stores as a life-size cardboard cutout starting early next year. Take a peek at the ad and the can below!
And the deal will likely include a Super Bowl commercial as her fifth Pepsi ad will appear after her Halftime Show performance.
