Evelyn Lozada admitted that she was in a bit of a dark place after first separating from Chad Ochocinco Johnson.
“I probably didn’t comb my hair for a month. I needed to turn off from the world. It was a very tough period for me,” Evelyn told Radar Online.
Evelyn’s state of mind is understandable. The “Basketball Wives” star had just married and was readying for a VH1 spinoff series with her newlywed NFL husband when a domestic incident changed everything.
Her marriage was over, and the upcoming series was cancelled. On top of that, Chad was fired from the Miami Dolphins.
“I had a month-and-a-half where I was just dark. I wasn’t tweeting. I went away,” said Evelyn who did appear on a few TV series shortly after the incident to share her side of the events.
Less than six months later, Evelyn said things are looking better for her.
“I am on the way to recovery now, though. I am good,” she said. “I am absolutely back on the road to recovery now.”
Evelyn’s celebrity friends include her co-stars, Shaunie O’Neal, singer Rihanna and life coach Iyanla Vanzant, but she gave credit to her daughter for helping see her through.
“My daughter was my rock through the whole thing,” Evelyn said. “She is 19, so it was important to be strong for her and make sure she knew that this happened, and I want to be an example for her and let her know that domestic abuse is never something you should tolerate—I don’t care who he is, how much money he has or how fine he is,” said Evelyn.
