Chris Brown is taking the next step in the rehabilitation of his reputation by spending time with school kids.
According to the New York Daily News, the singer recently sat down to read a book to students in Harlem. The story session was part of Sisulu-Walker Charter School’s “Family Read Night,” which aims to encourage kids to read.
Last year Chris pleaded guilty to felony charges of domestic abuse after an attack on ex-girlfriend Rihanna. But school officials didn’t feel he should have been excluded from the annual reading event.
"I extended an invitation to all celebrities and politicians, and we had an acceptance by him,” said Sisulu-Walker principal Dawn Tejas.
And parents did not seem to mind giving him a second chance despite his conviction. "He can come even though he was arrested," said Olubunmi Sonubi, whose child attends the Harlem school. "He’s coming to read to the children. He apologized on TV. Sometimes in real life we make mistakes."
Chris’ camp hasn’t spoken on the student sit-down, but this is the second charitable appearance he’s made in New York since the beginning of the year. Last month he walked in Naomi Campbell’s Fashion for Relief Runway show, benefiting the effort to rebuild Haiti after a devastating earthquake.
