Russell Simmons’ fashions are ‘American Classics’

If you’re still shook over Russell Simmons’ sell of his game-changing Phat Farm line, you’re in for a treat. The hip-hop head has essentially re-created his line for the Wal-Mart customer and named it American Classics. Just like PF, the discount line pairs a very Ralph Lauren/country club aesthetic with the looser fit and swagger of an urban line. But that’s definitely not a bad thing, since the urban prep needs to have an affordable option or two, especially in these hard economic times. The line is as American as sweet potato pie with lots of blues (literally. Nearly every item has some shade of blue), argyles, plaid and khaki.

The prices are beyond reasonable, with one of Russell’s cable sweaters going for $18, cargo shorts for $15 and khaki slacks for $20. The line is available online and will be released to 350 Wal-Mart stores nationwide in the coming weeks, according to the
    Chicago Sun-Times.
