After five days on store shelves, Avatar is conquering home video sales.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, shoppers have snagged 6.7 million copies of Avatar DVDs and Blu-ray discs since it’s release on April 22. Fox Home Entertainment wanted the home video launch to coincide with Earth Day, and consumers were eager to get their hands on a copy of the James Cameron film.
Although FHE has only released a standard, 2D version of Avatar, which includes no special features, it still managed to sell 1.5 million Blu-ray copies in the first day alone.
Special editions of Avatar DVDs and Blu-ray discs will be release be released later this year. But Blu-ray customers may want still want to hold off on picking up a copy until next year when a 3D version of Avatar hits stores.
