Couple: Niecy Nash  & Louis van Amstel

    Dance: Quickstep

After seven weeks in the competition, the honeymoon is over for Niecy and Louis. The so-called “enthusiastic eater” remembered she and her pro initially bonded over food.

Oh, how quickly things change now that Niecy has made steady improvement. Louis knows that the comedian can do better, and he’s really pushing our girl. Although we think the hard work has been paying off, Niecy still sees room for improvement.

“Louis and I, on a scale of one to 10, I would give us a two,” she said. “But once we get that mirror ball trophy, we’ll be at a 10.”

From their airy performance on Monday we’d say that Niecy could probably bump that score up a couple notches. The quickstep seems to be the right mix of grace and fun to really show off how the comedian’s ballroom skills have improved over the past weeks.

We’ve got to hand it to Niecy: Her footwork was crisp and her frames were pretty solid.

The judges were pleased to see that Niecy and Louis could deliver a decent quickstep.

“I’m thinking that Lady Day did something for you because your footwork was better than ever,” judge Bruno Tonioli said. “Your best dance to date.”

“Everything worked well, you were impressively light on your feet,” exclaimed judge Carrie Ann Inaba. “It was like the perfect dance for you. Everything small, dainty—just perfect. I loved it!”

Resident curmudgeon, Judge Len Goodman, agreed with his fellow panelists, calling  Niecy’s routine “fleet of foot.” However, he warned that she still needed some work on her posture.

“You gotta lift your rib cage,” Len said. “Very well done, though. Best dance you’ve done.”

The judge’s comments aside, Niecy and Louis got a score of 25 for their individual routine.  That sore included a nine from Carrie Ann, their first of the season. When coupled with their score of 24 from the Cha-Cha challenge, Niecy and Louis came away with 49 points out of 60.
