Darwin Hobbs is still in the hospital after more than a month of treatment for blood clots in his lungs.
The gospel singer was admitted to an Atlanta hospital on June 15 after his wife, Traci Hobbs, became concerned about his health.
"While traveling to the airport for a performance in the Mid-west with his close friend Yolanda Adams, he became really short of breath,” she recalled. “Something
just didn’t seem right, and I decided that we had better get this checked before we go any further.”
The clots are believed to be a complication of his recent gastric bypass surgery. And doctors think that the ones found in Darwin’s lungs are actually small pieces that broke off of a larger clot they found in his right leg.
Darwin has now been put on blood thinners to break up the clot, but he’ll remain in the hospital until those have started to dissolve. After that, he’ll be released to continue treatment at home.
The singer’s manager, Jimmy Maynes, assured fans that Darwin will return to the stage once he is healthy again, stating, “Until Darwin has received an official green light from Dr. Stephen Frohwein, his cardiologist, and the Atlanta Pulmonary Group at St. Joseph’s, we will suspend all further public appearances and we will look forward to getting back to work once Darwin is able.”
